The Continent awaits. For most of our married life Colleen and I have dreamed of going to Europe. In our early years it simply wasn't in the budget. Then kids come along and budgeting takes on a whole new dimension.
We did finally set a date in our minds, our twenty-fifth anniversary. Romantic right? Celebrating a quarter century of marriage while travelling some of the most romantic places on the planet. Then your daughter's boyfriend comes and asks for permission to marry your daughter, and he's a great guy so you can't say no, and the trip gets postponed once more.
Jump ahead a few years and you find yourselves empty nesters and suddenly you realize, it's possible. So you do your research, decide on a tour since it's your first trip and you'd rather not get lost, and you book your trip. And then you wait, and wait, and wait. Our own fault really since we booked far far ahead to get a killer price on the tour. Then finally, it's here.
Tomorrow we take off from Vancouver International Airport on a nine-hour flight that will take us to London, We have a few hours on Thursday to squeeze in what we can of that beautiful city, then to bed.
The following morning our tour bus picks us up at 6:30 a.m. and we head off on a 12 day, 7 country whirlwind tour: England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium.
I am going to attempt to update this blog each day and then post the link to Facebook. If the blog fizzles out it will be because it is getting in the way of my vacation but let's all hope that doesn't happen.
My hope is that I can bring a little of Europe to everyone who takes the time to read this. So sit back, relax, and try not to be too jealous.
